India-US Relations Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal is on a six-day visit to San Francisco and Los Angeles. In the meantime, he has expressed his desire to work with Stanford University in California. He also emphasized the partnership between the Stanford Graduate School of Business and the Indian Institutes of Management.
Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal is on a six-day visit to San Francisco and Los Angeles. In an effort to deepen the partnership between India and the US, Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal on Tuesday expressed his willingness to work closely with Stanford University.
During his visit to Stanford University, the Union Minister expressed India’s desire to collaborate with Stanford’s newly launched Doerr School of Sustainability. The university’s new Center for Research and Innovation is focused on advancing the planet’s long-term prosperity.
Piyush Goyal underlined the need for a deeper understanding of India’s energy needs and potential solutions for sustainable development of industrial and economic activities.
He also emphasized the partnership between the Stanford Graduate School of Business and the Indian Institutes of Management.
In his meeting with the Stanford leadership, Goyal also discussed a new paradigm for large-scale semiconductor and other electronics manufacturing in India.
Goyal also highlighted the difference between theoretical knowledge and its practical implementation in his address at Stanford University. He said, ‘Management theory because of structured education believes that the knowledge that comes from textbooks is different from the ground reality’.
In addition, Goyal proposed an industry policy framework to support the growth of the health technology industry, including medical devices, diagnostics and digital health, to create a scalable ecosystem that serves billions of patients worldwide.

Commerce and Industry Minister Goyal will meet US Trade Representative Catherine Tai and US Commerce Secretary Gina M Raimondo on the sidelines of the IPEF Ministerial Meeting. IPEF was jointly launched by the US and other partner countries of the Indo-Pacific region in Tokyo on 23 May.
