Cheetah gives birth to 4 healthy cubs in Kuno: the female cheetah brought from Namibia in the first batch

The information about Siya’s pregnancy was received by the management of Kuno National Park 20 days ago. Since then she has been given special treatment. The female cheetah Sasha had died two days ago.

On September 17 last year, on the occasion of his birthday, PM Narendra Modi had released 8 cheetahs brought from Namibia in Kuno, which were shifted to a bigger enclosure after being quarantined in small enclosures for 50 days.

About two months ago, three female and two male cheetahs were released in an enclosure. On February 18 this year, the second batch of 12 cheetahs was brought to Kuno from South Africa.

Cheetah’s pregnancy period is 90 days.

Bhaskar was the first to tell that on January 6, mating between cheetahs has been seen. However, this was not confirmed by Kuno management at the time. Cheetahs have a gestation period of 90 days. In this context, babies are born after 82 days of mating.

Siya was in the same enclosure for a week

Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) JS Chauhan said that for the last one week, Siya’s activities were concentrated at one place in enclosure number 5.

This led to the realization that she was probably about to give birth to children. When she went hunting on Wednesday, Namibian cheetah expert Ilai Walker observed from a safe distance at the relevant site that the female cheetah had given birth to 4 cubs.

Meeting with either Elton or Freddy

The female cheetah got pregnant 3 months ago after opening the net for the movement of cheetahs between enclosures number 4 and 5 in the big enclosure. Kuno’s officials say that it has mated with one of the two cheetah twins, Elton or Freddy, who came in the first batch from Namibia.

Number of males many females cubs will be known after 3 months

The Kuno administration will come to know after 3 to 4 months, when they will see them closely, how many are males and how many are females among the 4 cubs that the female cheetah Siaya has given birth to. Kuno DFO Prakash Verma said that it is difficult to tell at the moment.
